New Book Release: The Forbidden Path by Tammy Tate #TimeTravel #Romance

I’m turning my blog over to Tammy Tate today, who is celebrating the release of the final novel in her Spirit Path series. Take a look as Tammy introduces The Forbidden Path. As a writer, it’s always hard saying goodbye to characters we love when we wind down a series. It sounds like she ends this one on a high note!

~ooOOoo~

Mae, thanks so much for inviting me to be your guest today. I love checking out all the awesome stuff you’ve discovered about ghosts, myths and legends.  I’m thrilled to be here and excited to share my new release, The Forbidden Path. It’s book 3 in my Spirit Path series.

Sadly, it’s the final story in the series, and quite frankly I’m already having withdrawals. I have spent so much time on it, it’s hard to let the characters go. Nicole, my heroine, is so charismatic she even showed up in one of my Christmas stories called, Off-Duty Christmas. A very outspoken reader graciously brought it to my attention.  With my publisher’s assistance, Nicole received a stern reprimand and we informed her she couldn’t make future appearances without our written permission. She complied… LOL

Needless to say, writing this series has been a delightful journey. The story continued to grow with each sequel. Book 3 tops the charts at over 80,000 words. That’s quite an accomplishment for me since the series started out as a short story.

Book cover for The Forbidden Path by author, Tammy Tate shows couple in a passionate embrace with wooded skyline belowThe Forbidden Path begins six months after Nicole brings her Sioux warrior home. She calls him Rave because calling him Flaming Arrow brings too much unwanted attention. It’s important to keep his identity a secret from the outside world. There’s only a handful of people that know he’s from 1812. Not only has Rave learnt to survive with all the modern conveniences, he learns evil exists everywhere. Even, centuries later. Only instead of going up against neighboring tribes and settlers like in 1812, he goes up against a ruthless motorcycle gang who takes the one thing he holds dearest to his heart. Nicole. The perfect ingredient for an interesting tale, wouldn’t you say?

Memorial Day weekend is coming up. Rave, Nicole, Michael and Tracy are on their way to Michael’s family cabin for the weekend. A motorcycle gang has taken over Kings Ridge. You guessed it! They not only pass through the town. They stop to grab a bite to eat. The gang’s leader, Cody, decides to host a hunting expedition in Rave’s honor using him as prey. Cody kidnaps Nicole to ensure he’ll play along.

You might say, wait!! This is supposed to be a time travel story. Don’t worry. Everything spins, again. Only this time Nicole ends up in 1849. Guess who goes along? Seriously? You didn’t think I would give that away, did you? LOL

In this segment, Nicole’s forced to master her gift to get them home. Only, she makes a pit stop on their way back. She gets to do something extraordinary. 🙂

The ending is sweet, yet unexpected. Rest assured, I tossed in a few more “ole-my-goodness” moments.

EXCERPT:

She arches an eyebrow. “I’m pretty sure he won’t play your little game—”

Cody cuts her off. “You underestimate the power of love, my dear.” He points a finger with a skull and crossbones ring on it. “I have something he wants.”

The other men laugh and she gasps knowing full well he means her.

Of course! He’s using her as bait. That’s why heʼs holding her prisoner. For all she knows, Cody threatened to kill her if Rave doesn’t go along.

She lifts her chin. “You have no idea who you’re dealing with, do you?”

“Of course, I do. We’re playing a game of cowboys and Indians.”

“Do you believe in time travel?”

Cody cocks his head. “I don’t have time for this.” He heads for the door.

“You should make time.” When he doesn’t turn around, she blurts, “Rave is a Sioux warrior from 1812.”

Cody spins around with his feet splayed and his arms across his chest. “Yeah, and I’m E.T.” The room fills with laughter again and a smile plays at the corners of his mouth.

Nicole shrugs. “You can’t say I didn’t warn you.” His face turns bright red and a part of her is pleased to see that she gotten under his skin. She’ll pat herself on the back later if she makes it out alive.

Mae Clair Presents Guest Blogger Tammy Tate with The Secret Path

Today, I’m turning my blog over to my friend, Tammy Tate, who is celebrating the release of the second novel in her time travel series.  Sit back and enjoy as Tammy explains how the idea of THE SPIRIT PATH came to be, and then shares the blurb and excerpt from book two, THE SECRET PATH.

Book cover for The Spirit Path by Tammy Tate showing a couple in silhouette with a horse in the foregroundBIRTHING THE SPIRIT PATH
By Tammy Tate

“Where did you come up with the idea for The Spirit Path?” you ask. That’s easy.

I used to own a palomino horse named “Buck”, a Rottweiler named “Cash”, and I rode almost every day with a dear friend of mine. We spent hours winding through trail after trail of undeveloped terrain. I used to wonder what it would have been like in the 1800s when Native Americans roamed the land. Did they ride their horses down the same trails?

It turned into a passion. After hours researching Native American culture and language, I wrote The Spirit Path for A Journalism/Short Story class I was taking. Of course, it was a much smaller version. But, my instructor loved it and I scored an A+. As time passed, the characters I created refused to go away. They had a lot more to say. Therefore, I expanded on the storyline, hoping others might enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it. The response I got went far beyond my expectations.

At first, I self-published it as an eBook. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect over 7000 downloads in the first couple of months! Not to mention, each time I finished one…I received passionate requests for a sequel. I had no choice. Readers wanted more and the characters were still restless. They wanted to live on. It was incredible to see them come to life right before my eyes. It was up to me to get it all down and tell their story.

Now, I have a wonderful publisher, Books To Go Now. The story has evolved into a three part series. Book 1 and 2 are available on Amazon. Book 3 is almost complete and ready to go through the editing process. The hard part will be letting them go.

It has been an amazing journey…

Time travel is a fantasy. Isn’t it?

Not anymore… Nicole traveled to 1812 and left something behind. Now, she’ll risk everything to return. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. She can’t come and go at will and there’s no guarantee where she’ll end up if she does go back. Nevertheless, her love for Flaming Arrow far outweighs the risks.

Sam is a modern day Shaman who agrees to help. In a twisted leap of fate, Nicole’s best friend Tracy, goes along and they find themselves running for their lives.

Now, Nicole has three goals. Locate her soulmate. Convince Tracy she’s still married, despite the fact her husband hasn’t been born yet. And, get them home alive.

Excerpt
Nicole shook her head to recall the last thing she remembered. When she blacked out, Tracy was beside her. That meant she was inside the perimeter as she began her journey into the past. It explained why they were both in 1812. Poor Tracy. She didn’t have a clue.

“Tracy, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for you to come with me.”

Tracy stretched high over her head and yawned, obviously still oblivious to the situation. “Are we in a wagon?”

“Yes.” Nicole nodded slowly.

Tracy chuckled then looked confused as her eyes darted around the dimly lit quarters. “When did you get a wagon? I don’t remember—” She stopped in mid-sentence and her mouth gaped open when a gunshot exploded from outside.

Nicole covered her ears to muffle the sounds that followed. Only faintly hearing hooves pound the ground, women and children scream and men shout in desperation.

“Is that smoke?” Tracy asked in a high-pitched tone. “Are we on fire?”

Nicole read her lips and looked to where she pointed. A gray billowy cloud materialized inside the wagon like an apparition and instantly stung her eyes.

Nicole buried her nose in the sleeve of her dress then pulled back briefly to cough out a command for Tracy to do the same. Right away, she saw blood on her sleeve.

In an attempt to escape before flames engulfed the canvas overhead, she grabbed Tracy’s arm, pulled her to her feet and drug her to the back of the wagon. They had to go. Now.

“Wait!” Tracy jerked her arm free in protest. “Where are we? Don’t lie. By the looks of it, I’m guessing— Are we in 1812?”

Nicole heard her gasp when she confirmed her suspicions with a quick nod.

“Are-Are you serious?” Tracy stuttered. “I don’t want to be in 1812! Okay Niki, you made your point. I believe you can travel in time. I’ll never doubt you again. Now, let’s go home.”

“We have to go all right. We’re under attack.” Nicole mumbled inches from Tracy’s face. “Home isn’t an option right now.”

Mae Clair Presents: OFF-DUTY CHRISTMAS by Tammy Tate #HolidayRomance

Today, I’m delighted to welcome a new author friend, Tammy Tate. Tammy’s visited my blog once before with her novella, THE SPIRIT PATH. Today she’s sharing her latest release–a sweet holiday romance, OFF-DUTY CHRISTMAS (I love the fun, breezy cover!). Be sure to check out her wonderful book trailer too. I think she has a special knack for creating them.

Welcome, Tammy!

~ooOOoo~

Mae, thanks so much for inviting me to be your guest today. I always love hanging out and browsing all the neat stuff you’ve uncovered about ghosts, myths and legends.  I’m thrilled to be here and excited to share my new release with you. It’s a romance called Off-Duty Christmas.

I have a hard time remembering life before romance novels, but here’s my best recollection.

About twenty years ago a friend of mine handed me my first romance novel. Of course, my initial reaction was I didn’t have time to read it. I had a husband, six horses, two Rottweilers and three kids, need I say more?

One night, I picked it up and began to read. Needless to say, I found it captivating and never made it to bed that night. From that day on, I was hooked. Then, one day I told my husband I wanted to write a romance novel of my own. He never batted an eye. This is my second book and I have two more coming soon.

With the upcoming holidays, I wanted to write something Christmas-oriented. Since I was a police dispatcher for seven years, I thought why not combine the two elements? The story begins in the dispatch arena because that was familiar territory for me. The characters sprang to life before my eyes to tell their story.

Off-Duty Christmas is about a dispatcher, two cops, and a game warden that go on vacation to a cabin in the mountains. The perfect ingredients for an interesting tale, wouldn’t you agree?

This story is about Kaitlyn, a police dispatcher who lost her parents in a plane crash and refuses to let anyone get close to her. The thought of losing someone she cares deeply for terrifies her. She was an only child so she doesn’t have siblings to help fill the void.

Christmas is right around the corner and she’s consumed with pouring more hours into her work schedule to make it pass quickly. She buries herself in twelve hour shifts to forget how lonely she is without family around her.

Her best friend, Officer Gina Jordan, convinces her into doing the unthinkable. She’s rented a remote cabin in the snow-covered mountains and invited Kaitlyn to go along. Ethan, another officer with the department, invites himself. A few days before they are about to leave, Gina is introduced to the handsome new Game Warden in town, a man known as Bryce. He’s taking the place of a retiring veteran in the area and she asks him to come along.

While at the cabin, Kaitlyn finds herself falling in love with Bryce despite the fact that he has one of the most dangerous professions out there. Nine out of ten people he’ll come into contact with, will have a gun. By allowing herself to love him, she’s upped the odds of possibly losing another loved one.

EXCERPT:
When she opened the door, Gina leaned against the frame, all five-feet, four inches of her.

“Ready?” Gina asked below a cap brim that read ‘Born to be Wild.’

Kaitlyn nodded, reached down and grabbed the handle of her suitcase. “When were you going to tell me about Bryce?”

Gina giggled. “Oh Bryce. You mean the new game warden? I just met him yesterday and he seems nice. I didn’t think you would mind if he tagged along.”

As they stood outside the steel doors, Gina beckoned the elevator several times as if it would make it rise to their floor quicker.

“I just wish you would have told me so I didn’t feel so clueless when Ethan asked me about it.”

Gina wrinkled her nose. “Since when do you care what Ethan thinks?”

Kaitlyn tried to nudge her with her suitcase, but Gina saw it coming and sidestepped before it made contact, then proceeded to do a little victory dance. A yellow light flickered at each level until the doors parted and they stepped inside.

“Just don’t bring him along on my account.”

“Who?” Gina’s head jerked up.

“Bryce.”

Gina arched a brow. “Now why would I do that? We both know you are two bootie shakes away from becoming a nun and traveling off to some godforsaken convent.”

“Am I that transparent?” Kaitlyn asked.

“Yeah, you are.” Gina shrugged while jabbing the down button several more times to get them to the ground floor. “I’m trying to educate you. Show you what you’ll be missing. That’s what friends do. Now lighten up before I leave your ass here.”

Mae Clair Presents: Tammy Tate and The Spirit Path #timetravel #romance

I’m delighted to welcome a new author today. Tammy Tate has just released her debut novel, THE SPIRIT PATH, a time-travel romance. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know I tend to get hyper-jazzed over time travel novels. I absolutely LOVE the cover of this one. Stunning and gorgeous doesn’t begin to cover it. Be prepared to drool, but first let’s meet Tammy!

Tammy, you’ve got an extremely cool bio and clearly have a diverse background—from Police Dispatcher, to Powder Puff racing and driving an 18-wheeler, you’ve no doubt got a plethora of ideas to use in novels. But let’s talk about your writing background. What initially got you penning stories and how long have you been at it?

My love for writing actually started in high school with a story about a girl that ran away from home and it was clearly a ‘why you shouldn’t run away from home’ masterpiece! She stumbled across every dangerous situation you could imagine. My teacher at the time was so impressed he wanted to share it with an influential acquaintance. The problem was, I never finished it. For some reason as a senior I thought about football rallies, prom and graduation first. Go figure…

LOL! I remember being a bit “distracted” myself in high school. What attracts you most to your chosen genre?

I’m a romantic at heart. But I don’t stop there! I like to toss in a dash of humor and sprinkle it with action. I make my characters work for their roles in my books and the fun part is watching them spring to life right before my eyes. The hard part is getting it down fast enough as it pours out onto the keyboard. That’s when they make me work equally as hard to keep pace with them.

Book cover for The Spirit Path by Tammy Tate showing a couple in silhouette with a horse in the foregroundCharacters are definitely a demanding sort. Much like cats and women. 😉  Without giving too much away, please share a bit about your favorite scene from THE SPIRIT PATH.

One of my favorite scenes has to be when Nicole and Flaming Arrow camp beside a lake with a beautiful waterfall and she removes her long sleeve shirt, exposing her cami. In modern day, it’s considered appropriate attire. But in 1812… it’s a brazen choice. She doesn’t realize the impact until she looks up to find him staring as though she just stripped completely naked. Her reaction is priceless…

I like the sound of that set-up! THE SPIRIT PATH is on my TBR list and I look forward to discovering more about it. Right now I’d like you to share a single sentence – – yes, only one! – – of dialogue or description you love.

His gaze latched onto the thin straps at her shoulders, down to the slight hint of cleavage of her well-rounded breasts, and then roamed lower to the bare skin just above her Wranglers.

And I wonder what Flaming Arrow’s reaction is going to be in THAT scene 😉 This sounds like a fun and sexy read, Tammy. When you’re not writing what do you do to unwind?

That’s easy, I’m riding on the back of our Honda Goldwing with my husband on the front. We pick a direction and ride till noon, eat lunch and ride back. The world looks so much different on a motorcycle compared to viewing it from a car window. You see it, smell it… taste it in a whole new light.

I have a very close friend who loves motorcycle riding. She and her husband are both avid bike riders. I remember riding with my husband when we were younger and always enjoyed the experience, especially in the evening on back roads. You could feel the change in the air temperature when passing streams or dense woods, and the smells . . . just so lush and green.

I’ll move onto pets now, because pets and writers naturally go together like peas in a pod. If you have pets, tell us about them and whether or not they shadow your writing time and space.

My heroine has a palomino horse and a rottweiller just like the palomino horse and rottweiller I owned when I lived in the country. I actually wrote a much smaller version of The Spirit Path during that time in my life for a journalism/short story class I was taking. The version you’re seeing today is an expanded piece of work. It’s also part one of a three part series. I’m excited to say my contract is for the series so the other two will follow.

That’s fantastic, Tammy! And palominos are just beautiful.  From the time I was a little girl, we had a saying in my family whenever anyone blew out the candles on a birthday cake:  “Wish for a pony!” Even today, we still say that. I think everyone wants a pony when they’re little. How wonderful that you had a horse—and a dog! I did have a few of those, LOL.

What is your:

Favorite season:  Summer

Favorite type of music:  Country

Favorite color: Pink

Favorite animal: Horse

Sunset picnic or night on the town: Sunset picnic

I would take a sunset picnic too. And my sister would love you. Her favorite color is pink and she’s a summer girl. 🙂

Tammy, thanks for being my guest today. It was wonderful to have you visit and I wish you much success with THE SPIRIT PATH. I’m looking forward to reading it!
