Thanks for inviting me to visit today, Mae, and helping me get the word out about The Crystal.  It’s always fun to be here and interact with you and the blogger friends.

This book is about a young woman who really does see a tall, handsome stranger in a crystal ball.

Book cover for The Crystal by author Sandra Cox shows an beautiful young woman staring into a crystal ball which contains the image of a main

Content Alert:
This book contains a mysterious crystal ball and an even more mysterious cat burglar.

Blurb:
The road to true love isn’t just rocky, it’s downright dangerous.

Excerpt:
Starting toward the counter to get a closer look at the jewelry, Gabby paused as she caught a glint of color out of the corner of her eye. Shifting, she craned her neck to see but the tinted shimmer disappeared. Curious, she walked in the direction the flash of green came from.

A row of black capes blocked her view. She pushed them aside and stared into the shadowy corner. Hidden in the gloom, was a sea-green crystal ball. It stood in solitary splendor on an antique claw-footed stand.

She took a step forward and ran her index finger along its smooth surface, the globe toasty warm against her damp skin.

Drawn, she splayed her fingers until her palms nestled around it. A delicious wave of heat ran through her, like sitting in front of a crackling fire on a cold winter day.

Ecstasy coursed through her body.

Transfixed, she watched glowing green change to blue, its hues dancing and sparking like moonbeams on the water.

The crystal pulsed beneath her hand.

By degrees, the feeling of warmth disappeared and fear crept in. Her breath hitched as the color in the crystal fell away and a face formed. Its blurred outline moved back and forth, wraithlike and then sprang into sharp focus.

The blood drained from her face, as her nerveless fingers dropped from the ball. The face in the globe belonged to the hard-eyed stranger she’d bumped into outside the shop only moments before.

Sundial by Sandra Cox .99c #TimeTravel #RRBC

One of my bestest blogging buds has dropped by to share her latest release, SUNDIAL. Even better, you can currently snatch it up for a mere .99c. I invite you to check out Sandra Cox’s latest release, then skedaddle to Amazon to grab this time-travel romance during its sale period.

Book cover for Sundial shows ornate white gates partially open with bright light behind themBlurb:
He came through time to find her.

As Sarah Miles drives down Eighteenth Street a stranger materializes in front of her car. She throws on her brakes, braces for impact and…drives straight through him. For a brief moment, his voice echoes in her head, “Saura.” Then he’s gone. Later that day, she discovers the SUNDIAL and her incredible journey through time begins.

Excerpt:
“Let go, dammit.”

She let go and fell, landing on her rump in the soggy marsh grass.

He looked down at her as he gathered his reins. “Next time, throw your leg all the way over and don’t kick the poor beast to death. I wish I could say it’s been a pleasure. What I can say, with certainty, is it’s been damn peculiar.” He tightened his knees. The stallion reared, making her scoot backwards on her bottom.

He gave her an elegant half-bow. “Ma’am.”

Heat flashed behind her eyes. “You always were an arrogant bastard.” Nerves pricked her skin.  How would I know that?

“And you were always an imp of Satan,” he shot back. The words were no sooner out than a look of bewilderment settled over his handsome features.

For one frozen moment his gaze met hers. Time fell away. Recognition leaped between them.

Her heart jumped and her breath quickened.

He made a violent motion with his hand, rejection stamped on his face. He wheeled his horse and raced away.

Once upon a time…

There were five authors with a passion for writing and story-telling who decided to band together and create a blog where they could share their love of the written word with the world. They didn’t set out to create an empire, just a small pocket of the blogosphere where others with similar interests might gather.

But then they realized how powerful writing could be, and that there were SO MANY writers, authors, and readers who might enjoy coming together and visiting their humble abode that they envisioned an empire. A place where writers could go to talk craft. Where readers could discover books—not only from the five authors—but from works that had impacted the lives of those authors.

Thus Story Empire was born

old world type map with script writing laid over top and words Story Empire set off as a bold header

I invite you to join me, Craig Boyack, Staci Troilo, Harmony Kent and Sandra Cox as we explore realms of fiction and more. We’ve got some fun stuff planned, including a few giveaways that will be coming up next month. For starters, you can find a post from me on the pros and cons about writing a series. Weigh in with your comments. We’d love to hear from you.

And don’t forget to click the “Follow” button while you’re there. You’ll get viewpoints from five different authors over time, view great content, discuss books, and network with many other wonderful writers.

Once upon a time…is now!

Guest Author Sandra Cox with Sunset #FantasyRomance #Genies

I’m delighted to welcome Sandra Cox back to my blog today with her latest release, SUNSET. Doesn’t that title conjure wonderful images? And wait until you see the cover! First, though, here’s Sandra with an intriguing guest post…

Be Careful What You Wish For
by Sandra Cox

If you found a genie’s lamp and had three wishes what would they be? Anything you want. What would you wish for? My first would be world peace, followed closely by being a New York Times bestselling author. And I think I’d hold on to the third for a fallback.

While having our desires fulfilled sounds wonderful, the problem with wishes, dreams, and fantasies achieved is that there is usually an unforeseen downside.

In Gillian Stone’s case it was an unexpected codicil.

Book cover for Sunset by Sandra Cox shows a genie lamp with smoke spiraling up from the spoutIntro:

Be careful what you wish for.

While I’m dropping pearls of wisdom let me add, read the fine print.

Why am I wasting my time offering warnings that no one is going to listen to? Because as humans we have this unconquerable urge to try to help others learn from our mistakes. Or in this case my great, great, great, great grandmother’s mistakes.

She came from a very poor background and consequently wanted it  all, riches beyond measure, beauty. Need I say more?

Great-great-plus Grams stumbled onto a genie’s lamp and made her wish.

You don’t believe in genies?

Trust me. They’re real all right. Unfortunately, when my ancient relative made her wish she didn’t bother to listen to the genie’s warning of strings attached. This lack of foresight has a direct bearing on the first born daughter of each generation, i.e. me.

To put it mildly, my life is complicated. I am literally grounded forever.

I live on a lavish estate in the mountains of North Carolina. Between sunset and dawn, my life is my own. But  during  the  day  I’m  encased  in  several  hundred pounds of marble. If you happen to wander by the Stone Estate and peep through the fence, you’ll hear the rippling sounds of water from a lovely manmade pool surrounded by lush fragrant flowers. Beside it stands a life-size statue of a young woman with long flowing hair and classic bone structure, draped in a Greek toga, a cat at her feet.

The cat is Merrick.  The young woman is me.

Are you using Facebook’s Author App? by Mae Clair

I’m not usually a big fan of Facebook. Especially since the only way to realize any true benefit there as an author is to shell out $$$….but when I have paid for boosts or ads, I’ve always had good results. (Note to self: continue to use FB for ads).

On a side note—before I get to the main topic—if you are paying for boosts, make sure your next several posts don’t require a large reach. Rumor has it FB holds those posts back with the philosophy if you’ve paid once, you’ll pay again. Eventually, things will even out, but the posts that immediately follow any kind of paid ad or boost generally reach less of your fans. Time for filler and fluff.

But enough with FB bashing. I’m here to say they’ve done something pretty awesome for authors. Thanks to my dear friend Sandra Cox, I’ve discovered the Author App. Sandra has a fun website with daily posts that are sure to make you grin. She’s also got a wonderful collection of novels and novellas that range from mutants and vampires to cats, flower gardens and more. While you’re roaming the blogosphere, pop over and say hello. 🙂

And now back to the reason for this post:

I’m know I’m probably behind the times since Facebook and I co-exist as frenemies, but I wanted to share the Author App in the event some of you aren’t familiar with it either

It’s easy to install on your author page.

  • Click the link (provided below)
  • Select your page
  • Go to the app (it will most likely appear under the “More” tab at this point)
  • Add your profile
  • Add books
  • You can even add information on upcoming book signings!

screenshot of author app on Facebook page of Mae Clair, author

The screenshot above was captured from the app on my page.

Pretty nifty, huh? Each book gets its own little section, and the best part is all you have to do is add the AISN or ISBN and the app automatically grabs the related content. You can also arrange what order you want your books listed.

I did discover, however, that the app doesn’t like apostrophes or italics (basically anything that isn’t HTML compliant).

After my books uploaded, I went back and edited all of the apostrophes getting rid of the gobbly-gook. Now I’ve got a neatly streamlined page with books, purchase links, and star ratings. I added all seven of my novels, then rearranged the tabs on my author page so that the Author App is visible without click “more.”

screenshot of the Facebook fan page for author Mae Clair showing a spooky house with light streaming from the windows on a red background

See the Author App tab above? If you’d like to see how the whole thing works, visit my page and click on the Author App tab for the full effect of how your books appear. You also get an author profile. You can find my page at https://www.facebook.com/maeclairauthor/

If you haven’t visited my page before, I’d also be grateful for a “like.” 🙂 If you include the link to your page in the comments below, I will return the favor!

The whole thing is pretty cool, don’t you think? So where exactly can you get this awesome app? Just click this link, and you’ll be set to go: https://apps.facebook.com/authorapp/

Thanks again to Sandra Cox for sharing this with me. Authors, were you familiar with this app?

It’s a dirty job, but some mutant’s got to do it…

Joel Eisler is a mutant with special talents. He can detect an oil leak in the ocean simply by tasting the water. Because of this unique ability, he’s been purchased by a large oil company, along with his dolph sister, Amy. The upside of spending his days and nights in the ocean is that it gives him the opportunity to save the lives of his brother dolphins. The downsides are life as a closely monitored slave—and that he can’t be with Piper, the dolph-girl he loves…

To make matters worse, Joel discovers the lab he grew up in has extracted his sperm and Piper’s egg and created a baby, and his handler, Craven, is plotting to kidnap Amy for more experiments. Now Joel must rescue the infant, bring her to Piper, and find a way to save Amy. And if that’s not enough of a challenge, he needs to convince Piper she belongs with him instead of her all-too-human boyfriend—if Craven doesn’t get to them first…

Some teens go to the Caribbean on spring break. Piper goes to save the world.

Piper Dunn isn’t who you would call a normal teenager. For one thing, she doesn’t want anyone to know she was born with a blowhole. Even stranger, she has two love interests. Joel, a fellow dolphin-human hybrid, and Tyler, a human.

It’s hard to choose when a mad scientist is hot on Piper’s trail. Worse, she’s trapped in the Bermuda Triangle. And . . . wait for it . . . Angel, her test-tube daughter, is apparently a real-deal reincarnation. It all adds up to an impossible situation, with happy endings all but lost at sea. Unless, of course, a voodoo high priestess casts a spell or two . . .

A Bouquet of Flowers in Winter

I miss spring. I miss summer.

The northeast is still in the grip of winter and it’s far from pleasant. This past weekend we had such lovely highs as -5 degrees Fahrenheit (with the wind chill). My husband and I are convinced humans were not meant to live in this type of weather. We are warm weather creatures, especially as we age. The photo below is a view of what I was greeted with when I stepped outside over the weekend. Very pretty, yes, but wretchedly cold. Especially when the wind was whipping snow all over the place throughout the day.

A split rail fence and tree covered with snow

Hubby and I are looking forward to spring when we can once again set up our back porch and deck. When I think spring, I imagine robins, Easter, bunny rabbits, and . . . flowers. Who doesn’t like the bright and colorful blooms that transform gardens and homes into a vibrant tapestry of color? But flowers are much more than just a gardener’s delight. They can be used for pressing, in aromatherapy, and in recipes, to name a few applications.

I’m delighted to announce that my friend and sister author Sandra Cox is offering FLOWER GARDENS AND MORE for just $.99 on Amazon through February 21st.  Check out the blurb for this book that will have you thinking spring:

BLURB:

FLOWER GARDENS AND MORE gives basic information on flowers, different gardens, planting instructions and composting. This book also details uses for flowers after they bloom that include: aromatherapy, pressing, and recipes for edibles. In addition there’s information on carnivorous plants, floriography and a quick reference chart. Wondering about zones? Which flowers are poisonous to your pets? Find the answers in this handy little book. There’s even a florascope personality test.
