Mae Clair Presents: Proving Ground by Stanalei Fletcher #Intrigue #Romance #Adventure

Hello, friends. I love today’s post for so many reasons, it’s hard to know where to start!

My guest blogger, Stanalei Fletcher, is one of the very first friends I made online when I waded into the world of publishing back in 2012. It was great to connect with someone else who was just starting out, too.

Stanalei now has a number of titles to her credit, including her latest, PROVING GROUND, an adventure/romance/intrigue novel. I LOVED this book for soooo many reasons! Please check out my five-star review on Amazon.

And if that isn’t enough, Stanalei is sharing her thoughts on a topic that resonates strongly with me−−series novels. Her comments are spot on! Perhaps that’s why I enjoyed PROVING GROUND so much, and look forward to the next entries in this fantastic series! 🙂

Please welcome, Stanalei Fletcher . . .

~ooOOoo~

Author, Stanalei Fletcher in a casual poseThank You, Mae, for sharing your blog and your audience today. I’m excited to be here to post a bit about my new Northstar Security Series and the first book in the series, Proving Ground.

Why Write A Series?

Who doesn’t love a good television series or a sequel to a favorite movie…as long as the sequel is as good or better than the first movie?

I love a good series. But I’m picky about the type of series I watch. For instance, I also love closure. I’m not a fan of cliffhangers. I feel incomplete and frustrated at the end of a season finale cliffhanger, or part I of II of a movie sequel. Of course, I’m anxious to see the next installment, and I’m likely to pay good money for a seat. But what if I lose the opportunity to see or read the end of the story? I already have an uneasy feeling about the last episode, why would I put myself through that emotional rollercoaster again?

That said, I get the reasoning behind cliffhangers, or a continuity thread that waits to wrap up in book 3. Readers love to know there is more to come with their favorite character or storyline. Marketing loves a hook. “Leave ‘em wanting more” has been a tried and true marketing message for decades.

So if this is how I feel about a series, why did I write one? And what are my stories like?

For starters, that ol’ marketing adage, “leave ‘em wanting more”, makes sense. But my Northstar Security books are not cliffhangers. I want readers to close that last page with a satisfied feeling of a complete story. I hope they’ll come back and look at the next book in the series, but if they choose not to, then I don’t want to leave them frustrated.

Each of my Northstar Security books features a couple who experience challenges and conflict in their circumstances. But in the end, the two are destined to win the day, and find happiness with each other. Readers can enjoy just one book and not feel like there’s unfinished business at the story’s end. Or readers can look forward to the next book in the Northstar Security series to see what other characters are up to and if they, too, will find their own satisfying conclusion.

I hope that the first book in my Northstar Security series, Proving Ground, offers such a read.

Thank you for spending a few minutes of your valuable time with me today. For more information about the upcoming stories in my Northstar Security series, you can check out the book’s website page here. Or sign up for my newsletter here.

I have a Goodreads Giveaway going on now until June 30th for Proving Ground. Please feel free to pop on over to Goodreads and enter for a chance to win an autographed copy. Here’s a link

USDA Forest Ranger, John ‘Mac’ MacAlistair, doesn’t want to babysit the motorcycle club holding their annual rally in his national forest. To make matters worse, Caitlin is attending the rally with Mac’s estranged uncle. Having her home again brings up feelings that are better left buried.

Mae Clair Presents: Deadly Curses by Donna Shields #BookTour

Today, I’m happy to participate in the blog tour for Donna Shields and her new romantic suspense release, DEADLY CURSES. I’ve enjoyed Donna’s previous releases, THE SWAN COVE MURDERS and SECRETS OF JENKINS BRIDGE, so I’m delighted to have her here today. Please help me in welcoming Donna Shields!

Blog tour banner for Deadly Curses by Donna Shields

I’m happy to be here today doing a guest blog. Speaking of blogs, sometimes it can be so frustrating trying to write a simple blog. For example, I had to write 7 blogs for this blog tour. And I gotta say, I felt so overwhelmed. All I could think was, what in the world was I going to talk about? It’s like writer’s block all over again. I can’t be the only one who can sometimes dread writing a blog whether on my own blog or someone else’s. My brain just wants to rebel and freeze. So, if there are more like me out there worrying about what to write about on their blog, I’ll give you five ways to unstick your brain to find something to blog about:

1) Write about what you know. Cooking, sewing, raising babies, pet lovers, etc. That’s what will make your blog your own. Share a favorite recipe. Just finish reading a book? Write up a review.

2) Read others blog. (Not steal their posts) Just get a sense of what everyone is blogging about. You’d be surprised what might spark your mind.

3) I’ll take the dictionary and randomly open a page to see what words are there. 9 times out of 10, I’ll find something to write about. Or watch tv. It is amazing what silly things spark my mind.

4) Lots of bloggers do the ‘Six Sentence Sunday’ or ‘Fun Facts Friday’ or there are a host of others out there. Try something like this.

5) And when all else fails, do whatever you would for writers’ block. Mine? I’ll do something totally unrelated to writing and an idea will pop into my mind. Or scribble and doodle on a notebook. It’s a right brain, left brain thing and it really works. Just don’t think while doodling. The mind is a mysterious but wonderful thing the way it works all on its own without us forcing it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Deadly Curses (Magnolia Valley Series)

Book cover for romantic suspense novel, Deadly Curses by Donna ShieldsDr. Trent Moore’s life is complete – a no-strings relationship, financial security, and great health – until he is summoned to his father’s grave and discovers a grave robber stole one of his father’s bones … a finger bone. From there, Trent’s seemly perfect world spirals out of control. Strange occurrences happen, and the sexy lead detective informs him a grief stricken mother has placed a curse upon him. As his near death experiences ramp up, and he finds himself falling in love, he’s beginning to believe there may be some truth to it all. But, will he run out of time before he can tell her he loves her?

When Detective Ciarra Pacelli is assigned to a prominent judge’s suspicious death, she doesn’t know her little world is about to be turned upside down. She discovers other possible victims of a deadly Voodoo curse, one being the gorgeous and stubborn doctor. As she becomes wrapped up in protecting him at all costs, she finds she’s fighting against her developing feelings for him. Once she realizes she can’t, she gives her all in finding a cure against the curse that promises to take him away from her for good.

EXCERPT:
Ciarra straddled the chair close to Trent’s bed resting her head on her hands. His cheeks lacked color. His eyes appeared sunk in. It seemed as if he’d aged within the last two hours.

Gregory came in from the hospital, which was where Trent was attempting to point out through the window just before he passed out, and said Trent probably had a touch of the flu as it was going around, and he was dehydrated.

Flu her ass. More like a damn curse. Ciarra called Tiesha back in. He wasn’t protected. Ciarra looked for the amulet he’d received last night, but never found it.

Trent’s sister in law, Sammy, prepared chicken noodle soup downstairs.

“Oh wow,” Tiesha said upon entering the room. “He doesn’t look very good. About as bad as the other one. I must say your partner’s unbelievable. He’s over there wearing gloves and a mask. I tried to explain to him he couldn’t catch it. But, he won’t listen to a crazy ape like me.”

Ciarra rolled her eyes. High time to give Rick some eye opening life lessons. “What do you think?”

“You should try a shaman or a Vodun priestess. You need to break the curse.” She placed the back of her hand against his cheek. “No fever. If anything, he feels cold and clammy.”

Ciarra eyed her best friend. “So, you know a Vodun priestess I suppose?”

“And a shaman. Which do you prefer? You don’t have a lot of time left.” She pulled out an amulet and handed to Ciarra. “Here is a new one. Place it under his pillow.”

“Thanks for the reminder . . . and the amulet. I guess the best bet would be Voodoo.” Ciarra reached out and ran her hand across the top of his head. She swore she wasn’t going to fall for this man. Yet, she teetered on the edge of a very high cliff with Trent. If only she could just let go and fall.

Jack, oh Jack. What do I do?

Her heart ached, being torn between the dead and the living. How had it happened? Trent lived like a playboy.

But, she could see a side of him he didn’t let out too often. One he wouldn’t really show. But then did a couple of times without knowing, he had.

Ciarra and he were like night and day. They could never last. But, the same could be said for Princess and Brutus. Yet, there the two misfits lay. Brutus the big baby on the rug and precious Princess curled up near his head, as if they had been the best of friends forever. Animals could teach humans a thing or two.

“Hello, Ciarra?” Tiesha waved her hands in front of Ciarra’s face. “Where were you just now?”

Ciarra shook off her thoughts. “Nowhere promising.”

“Oh boy.”

Ciarra raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“Oh this isn’t good. You have fallen flat on your face, huh?”

Ciarra turned away and back to Trent.

Then, it hit her. The whole Florence Nightingale syndrome thing. She only cared for him as a human being. “Nope. There will never be another Jack.” Silly little liar.

“Go ahead and lie to yourself. But Ciarra Pacelli, you are not, and I mean not, fooling me. I know you.”

Ciarra crossed her arms over her chest. “It’s only because I have to protect him.” Finally, something to cling to besides love. Maybe, she wouldn’t be tumbling off the cliff after all. She was lying to herself, but it was the only way to protect her from Trent.

“Again, go ahead and twist it any way you want. You have fallen for him.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author, Donna ShieldsI’m Donna Shields, author of paranormal romance and romantic suspense – published with Soul Mate Publishing, mom of six, gramma of four precious cuties and wife to an imperfect, yet amazing husband of fifteen years and counting (He’ll say a hundred, roll his eyes, and smile). Psss…I’m imperfect too, but don’t tell him that….

We call the beautiful state of South Carolina our home where there isn’t much hustling and bustling going on, where people are friendly (for the most part-it’s called that Southern Hospitality), strangers wave and say hello with a smile. And it doesn’t hurt being centrally located where the ocean is a mere three hour drive and the mountains no more than an hour and a half away.

I’ve been writing for five years steadily, but have always dabbled with writing short stories here and there. I’m a sucker (no pun intended) for all sorts of paranormal. And when suspense and adventure is thrown in the mix, I’m a truly happy girl. I enjoy writing both genres and at times the lines between the two blur, combining to make paranormal romantic suspense. My heroines are strong, even if quiet. They are independent, yet scarred and in need of a true love. A real hero, one who understands they need their space, but will love them fiercely. The hero may have a hard exterior, but inside he’s a mush ball. And the hero needs that woman who can tame him down a little and love with all her heart and soul.

Cover Reveal: Myth and Magic by Mae Clair

Drum roll, please!  I’m pumped up, jazzed, and all around giddy to be splashing the cover of my upcoming romantic suspense novel, MYTH AND MAGIC, on my blog today. I was more than a little worried over how this cover would look when it landed in my lap.

Why?

Well, if you’ve read my recent releases, you know my writing is slanting heavily toward mystery and romantic suspense. I wanted the cover of my new release to capture the mood of the story which is set at a brooding home with an infamous past. The property has since been converted to a lodge that caters to corporate clients. Into this environment, strange and ghostly occurrences begin to take place putting a damper on business (would you stay at a place where a notorious murder took place?).

I asked for a cover without models, just setting.

With all of that in mind, take a look at the beautiful, spooky cover Kensington Publishing/Lyrical Press designed for me and let me know what you think!

Book Cover for MYTH AND MAGIC by Mae Clair depicting a brooding old home at night

Now do you see why I’m giddy?  I love it!  It’s everything I’d hoped for, perfectly capturing the tone of the novel.  And for those of you who like romance with your mystery and suspense, never fear, there is plenty of that too!

BLURB:

AS CHILDREN THEY PLAYED GAMES OF MYTH AND MAGIC…

Veronica Kent fell in love with Caith Breckwood when they were children. As a teenager, she was certain he was the man she was destined to marry. But a traumatic event from Caith’s past led him to fear a future together. He left Veronica, hoping to save her from a terrible fate. Twelve years later, Caith, now a P.I., is hired to investigate bizarre incidents at the secluded retreat Veronica manages. Returning to his hometown, Caith is forced to face his nightmares—and his feelings for the woman he’s always loved.

THEN ONE DAY THE MONSTERS BECAME REAL.

After the callous way Caith broke her heart, Veronica isn’t thrilled to see him again. But strange occurrences have taken a dangerous toll on business at Stone Willow Lodge. Forced to work together, Veronica discovers it isn’t ghostly apparitions that frighten her, but her passion for a man she has never forgotten. Or forgiven. Can two people with a tarnished past unearth a magical future?

~ooOOoo~

MYTH AND MAGIC is scheduled to release on June 9, 2015. In the meantime, you can preorder it on Amazon and add it to your Goodreads TBR List.

I’ll also let you in on a little secret…even though the book is releasing in early summer, the story is set during October and has a strong Halloween theme—including the climatic scenes which take place during a lavish Halloween party.  I think June is the perfect time to scare up a new read like MYTH AND MAGIC, don’t you? 🙂

Book Spotlight: Rendezvous with Danger by Sharon C. Cooper

I love romantic suspense novels! It’s a delight to share Rendezvous with Danger, book 2 of the Reunited Series (a romantic suspense) by Sharon C. Cooper

3031828

BLURB
Alandra Pargas, ex-CIA counter-intelligence officer, plans to wreak vengeance on the people who tried to kill her. A little rendezvous with danger is not what scares her, though. It’s seeing the tall, dark, and dangerously sexy man she vowed to love forever that has her running for cover.

Former U.S. Special Operative, Quinn Hamilton, left the world of covert operations after the love of his life died in his arms during a black op. Three years later, he still loses sleep wondering if maybe he could have done something more to save her – until Alandra shows up on his doorstep. With her lies and betrayal, he wants nothing to do with her, yet, his heart won’t cooperate. It’s not until unknown enemies come after her that he must decide if he can leave the past behind and protect the woman he’ll always love. Will they survive this last mission and rekindle the love and passion they once shared?

EXCERPT
Quinn eased around the paint-chipped pillar, and along the musty-smelling hallway, his gun held close to his body and ready to shoot anyone who got in his way. All he needed was to leave the building without being detected.

“You have twelve minutes to get out of there Q,” Malik said through Quinn’s earpiece.

Quinn proceeded through the corridor, his body tight against the uneven wall. He made the first turn and moved down the dimly lit hallway where a single bulb dangled from a sub-standard light fixture. He heard voices coming from a room to his right, so he turned left and maneuvered down the staircase. Ten more yards and he would be home free.

He made it to the final step and halted when he heard footsteps running on the level above him and then down the stairs behind him. He ducked into a nearby utility closet, not closing the door completely.

“We have a problem,” he heard Malik say in his ear.

No kidding, Quinn thought.

“Two snipers on the rooftop of the building adjacent to the one you’re in. Sit tight.”

Missions like this Quinn normally did solo, but he was glad Malik was there. They’d run into a few snags, and his presence had proven beneficial.

“All clear.”

No longer hearing footsteps, Quinn eased back into the hallway, down the back stairs and out of the building into the night. He made sure the information he had just stolen was secure inside his jacket, and he inched toward the gate. A tree branch snapped. Quinn slammed his body against the brick wall, blending into the darkness of the night. He stood still for several seconds and heard it again. Slowly, he turned his head toward the noise. What he saw, several yards away under the dim moonlight, made his heart stop.

_1208189Alandra. What in the… He blinked several times, unable to fathom why she was thousands of miles from home, and standing in the middle of what could easily become a war zone.

He retraced his steps. She anxiously looked around the area and then back at the small device she held in her hands. Within five feet of her, he must have made a noise because her head shot up and their eyes connected. And in slow motion everything exploded around her.

“Get down!” he yelled and saw her fall to her knees.

Without thinking he ran to her and chaos erupted in every direction. He scooped her up and nestled her behind a long concrete block and then he noticed she’d been shot.

“Oh, shit.”

“Quinn,” she said, grasping at his shirt, her eyes wild. “Please … be careful.”

“Malik, I need you. Now!” Quinn growled into his mouthpiece giving Malik his location while he jerked out of his jacket and placed it under Alandra’s head.

“On my way,” Malik said.

“Hang on baby. We’re going to get you out of here.” He ripped open her down vest and then her shirt to determine the extent of her injury. Blood spilled from the chest wound. Damn.  He glanced around trying to decide the best route to safety as he removed his shirt, leaving him with only a black T-shirt on. Gunshots rang out around him as he pressed his shirt over her wound to slow the bleeding.

“Quinn… I love…you. I have to tel…”

“I love you too, baby, but I need you to hold… Oh, damn. Alandra? Alandra?” he growled when her eyes rolled to the back of her head. He cradled her closer to his body, willing her to stay with him. “Lan…” he started but felt a bullet slap the back of his shoulder – and then his back. Paralyzed by the sharp pain that traveled down his spine, gripping him like steel claws, he struggled to hold on to Alandra, fighting the blackness that threatened to overpower him.

“Alandra, baby, I…need you…to hold on.”

Wizards with Words: Author Sarah Ballance with LAST CALL

A beam of light shines out from an open bookIt’s Wizards with Words time, and I’m tickled pink to have Sarah Ballance on my blog today! Sarah is an outstanding author with a catalog of must-read novels and an active blogger who graciously promotes other writers. Today I have the pleasure of inviting her to share her new release, LAST CALL. So let’s get started! 🙂

Sarah, you’re an established author with a number of books already to your credit (several of them on my Kindle, the others on my TBR list). I’d love to know how you got started.

Sarah: *blushes fiercely* Um, wow. What an intro! I’m incredibly flattered—thank you, and thanks so much for having me! I honestly never wanted to be an author. About four years ago a friend of mine told me I should write a book. I said no, I couldn’t do that. Then I proceeded to write my first book precisely because I don’t like to be told I can’t do something—not even by ME. I figured I’d shelve the book, but my crit partner wouldn’t let me. I submitted to precisely one publisher and was offered a contract, and that’s how I ended up with the dubious honor of having my first work of fiction (DOWN IN FLAMES) out there for the world to read. Not long after I finished it I fell in love with romantic suspense via Harlequin Intrigues and I was hooked.

What a fascinating start! I love your reaction of rising to the challenge! Your current release, LAST CALL, is now available for purchase. Can you share some tidbits about the characters and plot?

Sarah: Eight months after accidentally shooting Rhys during a bad drug bust, Nick returns only to see her image on the late news as a murder victim. Something doesn’t feel right, but before he can ask too many questions he’s led to her “body” and ordered to keep her safe or they’ll both end up dead. The forced proximity, unseen enemy, and unresolved feelings from their past combine to create a mound of tension that doesn’t quit until the last page.

I love romantic suspense, and Rhys and Nick certainly sound like they’ll have great chemistry together. There’s nothing like romantic tension and danger to create a mesmerizing book cocktail! Do you find it hard to balance the two elements—romance and jeopardy—or do they blend easily as you write?

Sarah: The blend comes easily to me, but I wish I could say the same for the plot points, LOL.

Given your genre, do you find it necessary to do a lot of research when crafting a story? I’m imagining things like police procedure, ballistics, and crime scene techniques (to name a few). How much research goes into a novel like LAST CALL?

Sarah: With one exception (UNFORGIVEN, which is my favorite of my books) I haven’t needed to do a lot of research, probably because I’m a constant peruser of all things true crime and I don’t go into a lot of technical detail, though I do fact check anything relevant to a specific locality. UNFORGIVEN, however, was a beast. I had to find the perfect firearm for the job and rig a crafty explosion. These were not things I knew off the top of my head, and in fact I went back and forth between my husband and google for an entire day trying to get the right weapon. (He’s still speaking to me, yes.)

LOL! Okay, technique time. Do you decide on setting or characters first?

Sarah: Must I be difficult? LOL. I start with the story idea, and the setting and characters seem to fall in place from there. I don’t actively plan how it happens, but I’m thrilled to put the pieces together as they come.

Tell us something that readers might find surprising about your two lead characters.

Sarah: They used to be other characters. LAST CALL was originally plotted as a sequel to UNFORGIVEN, with Maverick taking Nick’s role. When I decided not to develop the book into a series, I had to figure out who my hero was all over again.

Do you have a favorite scene in the book? Can you share a bit about it without giving too much away?

Sarah: There’s a part after they, uh, flee their hotel room where Nick is trying to piece her wound back together and she’s just grinning at him. I love the moment between them because it’s the first time they really shed the past and find that old dynamic they shared.

Which do you find hardest to write—the beginning or end, and did that hold true with LAST CALL?

Sarah: Normally the beginning is tough and the end comes easily. This book was the total opposite. I had the beginning quite clear in my head, but the ending was so difficult I nearly tossed the entire manuscript into the great recycle bin in the sky. (Well, mine is actually on my computer’s desktop, and the story nearly ended up there more than once, lol).

Thank goodness you didn’t! Do you work with a critique partner(s)? Do you belong to any writing organizations and have you found them beneficial?

Sarah: I find an extra set of eyes to be invaluable. I have a couple of crit partners plus a reader I trust to be honest, so I feel I’m lucky in that regard. I just recently started attending my local RWA chapter and I’m mostly terrified and plastered to the wall, but I think if I ever start breathing while I’m there I’ll learn SO much.

If you could have a coffee date with an author of your choice to discuss technique, who would you choose and why?

Sarah: I’m totally cheating here, but there’s a loophole, so I pick my editor with Entangled. (She has co-authored a book before, lol). And I had coffee with her just last week and we did in fact discuss my writing, which was completely awesome. I learn so incredibly much from her I’m >this< close to stealing bathwater. Yeah, it’s like that.

And now let’s learn about Sarah through some quick one word answers. 🙂

Favorite color: blue

Favorite animal: horse

Favorite food: chile relleno

Chocolate or vanilla: chocolate

Casual or dressy: casual

Silver or gold: silver

Thanks, Sarah, that was fun! Before we wrap, would you like to share a teaser about what you’re working on next—because I know you’ve got to have something up your creative sleeve!

Sarah: I’m writing a historical romance, and I really don’t know how that happened. Like, I really don’t know. I’m still waiting to hear from acquisitions, though if they don’t want it I’m going to finish it anyway. The early feedback has been staggering-in-a-good-way, and I’ve gotten some of the most amazing compliments of my writing career as a direct result of this manuscript. I just wish I could figure out how this all happened. Because … seriously. I don’t know.

Amazing! I’m sure I’m not the only one who will be waiting to see what happens with that ms. I do love a good historical every bit as much as I love romantic suspense!

Nick Massey may have walked away from his troubles, but he never got past wanting Rhys. Once paired undercover, they’d been nothing but fireworks until a botched assignment ended her career, sending his into a tailspin. LAST CALL EXCERPT:
A man stepped into [Rhys’s] line of sight, his weapon at the ready. Before she could stop herself, she locked eyes with him. Big mistake. The decision threw her into a cloud of emotional shrapnel, the past flying at her in shards.

She’d been shot once before.

It hadn’t ended well.

The gunman opened his mouth and formed an ugly grin, his breath coming in visible puffs through yellowed teeth.

“Looks like a double header tonight, T,” he said, never taking his gaze off Rhys.

“Whaddya mean?” came the reply. The voice . . . she blinked until the second man shifted into focus.

She knew him. From where? She couldn’t think.

She glanced to the dead man, and her vision wavered. Panic shifted her world into a screen of jarred pixels, the flashback jagged and severe.

Rhys! Stay with me, Rhys. Do you hear me? Rhys!”

 Blood. So much blood.

“Nick.” She touched his face, feeling stubble beneath her fingertips. Then the weight of her arm was too much; as gravity won he slipped away. The world twisted into a sickening spiral until all that was left was his voice, the desperation in his tone bringing warmth to the darkness.

“Rhys!”

Motion jarred her to the present.

The gunman gestured. “Our witness here is about to have an unfortunate accident.” He raised the weapon, aiming for the kill.

It was a short view down the barrel at point blank range. She expected that.

What she didn’t anticipate was the speed with which he pulled the trigger.

Or how quickly the pain hit.

Sarah BallanceAUTHOR BIO:
Sarah and her husband of what he calls “many long, long years” live on the mid-Atlantic coast with their six young children, all of whom are perfectly adorable when they’re asleep. She never dreamed of becoming an author, but as a homeschooling mom, she often jokes she writes fiction because if she wants anyone to listen to her, she has to make them up. (As it turns out, her characters aren’t much better than the kids). When not buried under piles of laundry, she may be found adrift in the Atlantic (preferably on a boat) or seeking that ever-elusive perfect writing spot where not even the kids can find her.

She loves creating unforgettable stories while putting her characters through an unkind amount of torture—a hobby that has nothing to do with living with six children. (Really.) Though she adores nail-biting mystery and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, Sarah writes in many genres including contemporary and ghostly paranormal romance. Her ever-growing roster of releases may be found on her website.

Mae Clair: What is the Twelfth Sun?

The Twelfth Sun is a fictional nineteenth century schooner and the name of my latest novel. I just signed a contract with my publisher, Lyrical Press, last week for an anticipated release of August 2013. I’ll be diving into pre-edits any day now. It feels good to be starting the publication process all over again before WEATHERING ROCK is released on October 8th. This time, I know the ropes and have a better idea of what to expect.

So I thought I’d share a glimpse of TWELFTH SUN, because I’m sure to be blabbering about it in the weeks and months ahead.

Although there aren’t any paranormal elements in this one (shocking, I know), it is brimming with mystery. A contemporary romantic suspense story, it involves the hunt for a valuable journal belonging to a shipboard representative who was a passenger on the Twelfth Sun when she sank in 1836. Several antiquities collectors are vying for possession of the journal including my heroine’s housebound uncle, Gavin.

Reagan Cassidy agrees to purchase it from reclusive billionaire Eric Southern on her uncle’s behalf but, because she knows nothing about marine artifacts, Gavin asks her to coordinate with his friend, Dr. Elijah Cross.  Reagan agrees, expecting the marine archeologist to be old and stodgy.  Instead, she gets a twenty-five year old genius with a Ph.D., quirky personality, and drop-dead gorgeous looks that make her forget she’s a respectable thirty-five her old business owner.

Their initial encounter is a disaster and, when they arrive at Sothern’s seaside mansion, they find themselves in competition with several other collectors for the journal.

Circumstances go from bad to worse when Sothern announces a competition ‘treasure hunt’ to decide who will ultimately walk away with the journal. As a result, Reagan is forced into working with Elijah in solving a series of riddles that begin to form a mysterious pattern. Complicating matters, her brilliant hunky partner is as gifted in seduction as he is behind the lectern, and her resistance only goes so far.

Intrigued? Dang, I hope so!

This was a fun story to write, especially coming up with the riddles. I know Six Sentence Sunday is vanishing from the radar at the end of January, but I’ll be sharing snippets of TWELFTH SUN one way or another.  And, ooooh, I do love nautical superstition and folklore, so expect some Mythical Monday posts in that vein.

From werewolves and time travel, to shipwrecks and mystery, works for me. I hope it does for you too! 😀
