Mae Clair’s SSS: Weathering Rock

Six Sentence Sunday 9-30-12

It’s Six Sentence Sunday! This is an extra special SSS for me as it’s the first since WEATHERING ROCK was released on Thursday. I’m still wrapping my head around the lovely little gem of being an author. So, for this SSS I thought I’d go back to the beginning and share the first six sentences of the book:

~ooOOoo~

The June moon rode a ragged ridge of bone-white clouds, filmy and pale as the translucent skin of an onion. Honeysuckle mingled with the aroma of sweet clover and drifted through the open window of Arianna Hart’s Chrysler Sebring. It was a pleasant night, touched by fog and ripe with all the scents and sounds that heralded summer’s arrival. In the distance, the rooftops of Weathering Rock jutted above the trees, silvered with the ice-white blood of the moon.

The old manor home predated the Civil War and had been a landmark for the town of Sagehill as far back as she could remember. Ball lightning and freak storms were said to roll through the surrounding fields like a tempest of Earth and sky, giving rise to superstition and legend.

~ooOOoo~

And we know where those superstitions and legends will lead, right? 😀

Mae Clair’s SSS: I Want to See You Again

Six Sentence Sunday 9-16-12

Hey, it’s a September Six Sentence Sunday! Tell me that isn’t a mouthful 😀

I’m sharing from WEATHERING ROCK again, though I’m jumping ahead and winding down to the end of the first date between my hero, Caleb DeCardian, and heroine, Arianna Hart. They’ve had dinner, shared a kiss that became too intimate for Arianna, prompting her to announce she was leaving. She also mentioned seeing a ‘wolf-like animal’ on a previous visit to Weathering Rock (Caleb’s home). The revelation had a profound impact on Caleb (who in addition to being from 1863, is also a werewolf with a nasty lycanthrope rival).

I’m skipping over a section where Caleb tries to convince her she must have seen a dog. Though she doubts him, she has no rational explanation for what she saw, and thus drops the subject. Caleb walks her to her car and asks to see her again. Arianna remembers their kiss and how much she enjoyed it, but has reservations given his reluctance to talk about his background. The six picks up with Arianna’s POV:

~ooOOoo~

Could she afford to become involved with such a complex man? He’d volunteered little of himself and his background, dodging the subject whenever she’d asked anything remotely personal over dinner. When they reached her car, she thanked him, then moved to open the door.

He gripped the handle before she could touch it, holding it locked firmly in place.

“I’m serious, Arianna. I want to see you again.”

~ooOOoo~

Okay, gang, I feel like I’ve been sharing this story forever. In a few more weeks the whole thing will actually be available for purchase at last. Happy, happy, joy, joy!  In the meantime, you can find all the yummy romantic and werewolfy-mysterious book details on the website of my publisher, Lyrical Press. It’s also available to add to your Goodreads list, should you like hunky conflicted heroes and heroines who simply can’t let matters be.

And did I mention extravagantly-jazzed-deliriously-giddy authors? Yeah. I’m one of those.

Mae Clair’s SSS: Werewolf Friends and Rivals

Six Sentence Sunday 9-2-12

Hi, sixers! It’s Sunday again and I’m excited to be able to share another snippet from WEATHERING ROCK which will be released on October 8th.  Check out the new “coming soon” link on the website of my publisher, Lyrical Press. How cool is that? *happy dance*

If you’ve been curious about Caleb’s werewolf tendencies, there’s a nice lycanthrope excerpt to go along with it. Just scroll down a bit.

Back to today’s six: Last week, after having dinner with Caleb DeCardian (Civil War colonel and werewolf who has time traveled to the 21st century), my heroine, Arianna Hart, told him she was leaving. This is after she indulged in a nice long sensual kiss, then grew irked for succumbing to his charms.

I’m picking up immediately where I left off last week with Caleb speaking first.

~ooOOoo~

“Then let me walk you to your car.”

In control of her traitorous feelings once again, she glared up at him. “Are you going to tell me it’s not safe? That I should be afraid of something…like the wolf I saw before.”

The blood drained from his face. “What?”

~ooOOoo~

Hmm. Is it possible Arianna could have seen werewolf rival and bitter enemy, Seth Reilly, once Caleb’s closet friend? The plot thickens. 🙂

WEATHERING ROCK is now available to add to your TBR list on Goodreads. I have been known to break into spontaneous Snoopy dances whenever someone does. 😀

Mae Clair’s SSS: Check, Please!

Six Sentence Sunday 8-26-12

It’s Six Sentence Sunday! SSS = reading + fun.

Sometimes, it also equals frustration. Grr! I’m sure I’m not the only one who struggles to come up with six fluid lines that make sense each Sunday. For the last few weeks, I’ve been sharing snippets of a dinner date between my leads in WEATHERING ROCK, Caleb DeCardian and Arianna Hart. Arianna was hesitant in agreeing to have dinner with Caleb but she finally consented. As the night progressed, she found herself swayed by his charms and ended up in his arms, sharing A Kiss Worth Waiting For. Afterward, she came to her senses on The Other Side of a Kiss.

In my new snippet, she’s pulled away from Caleb. Due to the limitations of six sentences, I’ve had to jump ahead a bit for the conversation to make sense. I’m starting with Arianna’s dialogue:

~ooOOoo~

“I didn’t come here for that kind of date, Caleb.”

“I know.” His smile dimmed. “I’m sorry. I don’t want you leaving angry.”

“I’m still leaving.”

~ooOOoo~

So dreadfully short, but dialogue has a way of whittling down a six very quickly. I hope you enjoyed my little snippet. I invite you to learn more about WEATHERING ROCK, Caleb, Arianna and the other characters who populate their world of time-travel, romance, and werewolves by clicking here. The book releases October 8th from Lyrical Press and is now available to add to your read list on Goodreads. To say I’m excited is an understatement. 😀

Mae Clair’s The Other Side of a Kiss

Six Sentence Sunday 8-19-12

Hi, friends! It’s Six Sentence Sunday time.

I’ve missed the last few rounds due to being away (and working on another novel) but I wanted to jump back in today and share another snippet from my upcoming release, WEATHERING ROCK.

I appreciate everyone who has been following along and commenting. If you’re unfamiliar with the story a blurb, character list, and book trailer can be found here.

The last time I posted, Caleb DeCardian (hunky colonel from the American Civil War who has time traveled to the present) finally got Arianna Hart (feisty teacher of American history) to have dinner with him. It turned into a romantic evening and Arianna succumbed to Caleb’s charms which resulted in a deliciously sensual kiss. If you missed that excerpt, it was A Kiss Worth Waiting For.

I’m picking up immediately after that, with Arianna’s POV.

~ooOOoo~

“Don’t.” She wrenched free. Flustered by her behavior, she raised trembling fingers to her lips, still moist and puffy from his kiss. She’d promised her attraction wouldn’t go this far, yet had tumbled into his arms. She could still feel the searing heat of his mouth on hers, the hungry possessiveness of his tongue sealing them together. He might appear courtly and refined, but his kiss was far from genteel.

~ooOOoo~

Will Caleb take no for an answer when he has a woman like Arianna in his arms?

I hope you’ll join me next week as I continue their story. In the meantime, don’t miss out on all of the other great SSS reads taking place today. You can find a complete list at the Six Sentence Sunday website.

Sit back, enjoy your coffee or tea and let the good times read!

A Kiss Worth Waiting For

Six Sentence Sunday 7-29-2012

Hey, Everyone ~ are you enjoying your Sunday?

I’ve had a wonderfully relaxing week indulging in some much deserved vacation time. Now, with my fun-in-the-sun days winding down, I have the giddy enjoyment of today’s Six Sentence Sunday round to keep me happily distracted. Hopefully, I’m holding your interest with WEATHERING ROCK my time travel/paranormal romance releasing on October 8th. For all the delightful details, tidbits on my charismatic characters and a bodacious book trailer click here. So, um, in case it wasn’t transparently obvious from that last sentence, I’m a wee bit excited about the release. 😀

For those of you who have been following along, Caleb DeCardian (hunky werewolf and former colonel during the Civil War, now residing in modern day America) and Arianna Hart (smart and sexy teacher of American history who is doing her best not to succumb to Caleb’s incredible charms :)) are having dinner together on the veranda at Weathering Rock. There’s fine china, candlelight, wine and moonlight. Dinner is over, the chit-chat has grown more intimate and Arianna suddenly finds herself in Caleb’s arms. I’ve skipped ahead a bit to reach that point but, romantic that I am, it was time to share a kiss worth waiting for:

~ooOOoo~

Her body betrayed her, enjoying the sheer hedonistic pressure of his mouth on hers, the faint taste of wine clinging to his lips. She’d be lying if she said she hadn’t wanted this, secretly hoping he would try to kiss her. She’d dreamed about it, imagined it more than once.

Emboldened, he wrapped an arm around her waist and deepened the kiss, trapping her against the porch railing. For one blissful moment, she knew only raw heat, the sensual intimacy of his tongue twining with hers, a rush of giddy pleasure that left her senseless, blindly clinging to him. His body was deliciously lean muscle, strength and corded sinew crushed against her softer curves.

~ooOOoo~

As always, thank you to everyone who drops by and comments. I love hearing from you, and reading what everyone else is posting. For a complete list of participating authors, be sure to check out the Six Sentence Sunday website and get ’em while they’re hot!

Weathering Rock: Moonstruck! SSS 7-22-12

Welcome to another round of Six Sentence Sunday. For a complete list of participating authors, click here. Yeesh! Can you believe this is the last SSS for the month of July?
Although I am hard at work on my latest WIP which involves a sexy marine archeologist with grunge-musician appeal and an ‘older’ woman, I’m sharing again today from WEATHERING ROCK.

If you’re unfamiliar with my paranormal romance/time travel featuring a modern day school teacher and a displaced Civil War colonel (who also happens to be a werewolf), you can find the blurb, character list and a book trailer here. WEATHERING ROCK will be released on October 8th by Lyrical Press.

I’m skipping ahead this week. Caleb DeCardian has invited Arianna Hart to have dinner with him on the veranda at Weathering Rock. He’s skillfully evaded her questions about his background and she’s found him to be equally engaging and bewildering. Dinner is now over and they’re standing on the veranda looking up at the moon which Arianna believes is full. Caleb tells her it only looks full, but is waning. I’m picking up there for the six, with Arianna speaking first.

~ooOOoo~

“You can tell the difference?” She shot a doubtful glance at the moon. It made her think of long-ago legends: fairy glades, nameless winged creatures and werewolves.

“The moon and I are well acquainted.”

He leaned into the banister, his leg casually brushing hers. She tensed at the informal contact, surprised when it streaked through her like a bolt of lightning.

~ooOOoo~

I’d love to share more than six sentences but ‘them’s the rules!’ Thank you to everyone who stops by and comments each week. Sundays are always a delight with SSS on the radar!

Weathering Rock: SSS 7-15-12

Happy Sunday, everyone, and welcome to another Six Sentence Sunday! If you haven’t been by for a visit since the last round of SSS, you probably noticed I’ve done some remodeling. WEATHERING ROCK has a cover and I had to splash it everywhere. Isn’t it gorgeous? It took a few days for my husband to peel me off the ceiling, but I’ve gradually come back to Earth. *happy sigh*

Since Caleb DeCardian and Arianna Hart are sharing a delicious near-kiss on the book cover, I thought I’d get back to their date. Arianna has finally agreed to have dinner with Caleb and (last week), was impressed by the lengths he went to make everything perfect.  If you’re unfamiliar with WEATHERING ROCK, my paranormal romance/time travel featuring a modern day school teacher and a displaced Civil War colonel (who also happens to be a werewolf), you can find the blurb, character list and a book trailer here. WEATHERING ROCK will be released on October 8th by Lyrical Press.

I’m jumping ahead a bit after last week. Caleb and Arianna have been conversing over dinner with her doing most of the talking. She’s finally cornered him about what he did for a living in the past, and he’s told he was in the infantry, in command of a regiment. Picking up there with Arianna speaking first:

~ooOOoo~

“That would make your rank–”

“Colonel.”

Arianna balked. At most, she had imagined him a captain. By no means was she an expert on military procedure, but she’d dated a staff sergeant several years ago and knew there were only a handful of full bird colonels in the entire state, all of them over forty. “Aren’t you awfully young to be a colonel?”

~ooOOoo~

Leave it to an inquisitive woman to put a man on the spot! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my six. Thank you everyone who stops by each week to comment and share your impressions. It’s such a treat to have you visit!
