I am super delighted to have my friend, Denise Finn, visit today with her brand new release, This Last Chance. I got a preview of this supernatural mystery when it was in beta form, and am thrilled to see it finally hitting ebook sellers. I’ve already snatched up my copy!

Please welcome Denise as she shares a glimpse of her newest novel.

Psst….there are evildwels and angels!

Thank you for having me here today, Mae, and sharing the release of This Last Chance😊

Behind This Last Chance

Evildwels are the misty dark entities that find evil human hosts. They gently encourage the host’s darkness so the evildwel can feast on the fear and negative feelings. They have been the villains, along with their human hosts, in my past two books, and two short stories. The angels have provided the counter side or the good. The angels have fought the evildwels the best they could, with the humans having the power of free will.

I got to thinking, what if that balance between good and evil was tipped in the wrong direction? That led me to Nester, the evildwel, having a crisis when the fear and anger that he used to feed on was making him sick. This makes him desperate enough to seek help from his enemy. He reaches out to the angel, Zelina, who has been a forceful presence in This Second Chance and The Button.

Although Nester is in a completely different situation, I thought of the character Louis from Interview of a Vampire. I originally intended to make the entire story about Nester, but the human, Amber, who Zelina was focused on, had her own story. This caught Nester’s attention.

Not everything is what it seems as Nester and Amber find out. This mirrors real life, especially now.

Blurb:

Six months after Amber’s sister is brutally murdered, she’s still looking for answers, and now someone is stalking her and no one believes her. Home alone with a powerful snowstorm approaching, Amber is determined to take control of the investigation by hiring a private detective, but her plans are disrupted when she finds herself snowed in with people she may not be able to trust. Meanwhile, Nester the evildwel, whose entire existence has been feeding on fear and pain, is seeking help from the angel who’s protecting Amber. Nester and Amber need answers. Can Amber figure out what’s going on with some subtle help from an angel? Will Nester find what he needs from his enemies? The worlds of good and evil clash, and the outcome will determine not only Amber’s and Nester’s fate but life as they know it.

FUN FINN FACTS:

  1. I had a light image of an angel on a hall door that I got a picture of, right before dark times.
  2. I use my own photographs on my blog, covers, and newsletter.
  3. I only drink water, sparkling water, tea, and sometimes fruit juice.

Excerpt from That Last Chance

Chapter 1

“My name is Nester. I’ve been around a long time, way before humans invented their first stone tool. My kind migrated from a distant planet that couldn’t sustain us anymore, in case you’ve been wondering where we came from. Although I doubt you winged ones—that’s what we call you angels—give evildwel history much thought. Your attention goes to the humans, including this young woman, Amber. You hardly leave her side. It’s an unsettling thought, but I can almost understand your devotion. I feel something from Amber that used to repel me, but now it draws me to her, much like you. Not sure what it is, though.

“I’m attempting to communicate with you, like winged ones do, by thoughts. I can’t take the chance of speaking out loud and being overheard by another evildwel. Anyway, it’s my hope you can hear me because my life is literally spinning out of control.”

Nester paused and studied the beautiful winged one. Zelina didn’t indicate she wanted him to stop, so he continued to push his thoughts to her.

  1. I grabbed This Last Chance and This Second Chance. I suspect there are more, but I can’t find a series list on Amazon. What titles am I missing, and if the order isn’t obvious, what order do I read them in?

I guess I should have started by saying, “Great post. Book sounds awesome. Can’t wait to read it.”

Thanks, Mae, for hosting. And best wishes, Denise.

    • Thank you, Staci! I didn’t start out to write a series. This Second Chance is the first one I wrote. Then The Button is a prequel to that or set in the 80s. That is the one I want to redo the cover and add in This Final Chance. Then came This Last Chance. A Long Walk Home introduced a new angel. Red Eyes is another off shoot. Each book is a different human story and feel, that is not linked to past books, but the angels are the constant throughout, along with the evildwels. I was surprised this happened is the best way to say this…lol.

  2. Wow, sounds like a great creepy read, and I, too, love the term “evildwels.” Am heading straight over to get my copy, plus whatever others I need to catch up on the series, Denise. However, just please excuse me while I’m totally and completely immersed in my re-reading of The Dresden Files. Your books WILL be awaiting me on my TBR pile when I catch up with those. Just a few more weeks, and I’ll be ready to get back to all the other great books out there, including these! Great post, Mae & Denise. You’ve sold me, for sure! 🙂

    • Thank you, Marcia:) Yay! I loved when you can reread and be emmersed again. My TBR is so big now but I plan to read every one of them…it just takes a while. I came up with the word evildwel because the book my daughter is working on was using the same term for evil as I was. I hope you enjoy it!

    • Oh, you’re sure to enjoy This Last Chance and the other books in Denise’s series, Marcia. And aren’t TBRs thoroughly out of control? I have so much reading to catch up on, it’s pitiful!

So glad you dropped by to share in Denise’s release excitement. New books are always such fun!

    • Thank you, Jan. Nester really wanted his story told. It does show not everything is what it seems to be, too. I like to believe that of our world. Hugs!
