Celebrating Independence Blog Hop: Day #2

Welcome to Day 2 of the Celebrating Independence Blog Hop. If this is your first time here, there are numerous authors participating in the hop which runs through July 4th at midnight — all with goodies and giveaways up for grabs. You can find the complete list at the Fourth of July Hop page. Have fun, we certainly are! 🙂

During the hop I’ll be giving away a $20 Amazon Gift Card. Nice, huh? I don’t know about you but I love, LOVE, L-O-V-E Amazon. If you’d like to register to win all you have to do is sign up to follow my blog by email and leave me a comment stating that you did. I’ll be announcing the winner on July 5th.

Being an author is wonderful. My time travel/paranormal romance novel, Weathering Rock ,will be available on October 8th  from Lyrical Press. I’ve got a book trailer and character list here should you like to give it a gander.  But it isn’t just writing that motivates me, it’s reading too. Given I spend so much time clicking the “buy” button on Amazon, I thought I’d share some of my recent purchases and what’s lingering in my TBR pile. Here we go:

Reading Now:
Lord Midnight by Donna Cummings

Recently Purchased:
Run to You by Sarah Ballance
The Between World by Stephanie Ingram
Taking Chances by Loni Flowers
A Christmas Promise by Amanda MacIntyre
Druid Mine by Kerry Adrienne
An Angel in the Mail by Callie Hutton
Sherlock: Season Two (DVD)
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (DVD)
Yeah, I know the last two are DVDs, but I’m a rabid Sherlock Holmes fan, so I had to mention them. Smart is sexy! 🙂

And now for the sprawling, ever-growing TBR pile. If only I could spend days reading. What bliss that would be!. This is just the tip of the pile, but I thought I’d share a few of the titles at the apex, screaming for attention:

Guardian of Fate by L.J. Kentowski
Staking His Claim by JM Stewart
Michal’s Window by Rachelle Ayala
Asher’s Invention by Coleen Kwan
Hawthorne by Sarah Ballance
Tide of Lies by Sarah Ballance
Summer’s Song by Allie Boniface

Most Recent Reads:
Once Upon a Stormy Night by Zee Mondee
Rendezous at Midnight by Lynne Connolly
Betting the Moon by Beverly Rae
Nineteen Hundred by Sue Koenig
Oh, Deer by Savannah Rayne
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Whew! So there you have what I’m currently reading, what I’ve recently read, recently bought, and what I plan to read. As you can see, I’m an Amazon addict 🙂  What about you?  What’s in your TBR pile, most recent purchases or your current read? Take a moment to share your favorites and, while you’re at it, don’t forget to sign up for my giveaway (current email subscribers to my blog are already enrolled). That $20 gift card is bound to come in handy if you’re a bookworm like me! 🙂

  1. That’s quite a list! I’m reading Wild Horses by D’Ann Lindun and loving it! And What A Texas Girl Wants by Kristina Knight, also loving it! I don’t have as much time to read in the summer, but enjoy those moments when I do! Thanks, Mae!

    • Thanks for dropping by and commenting, Jennifer! I know what you mean about having less time to read in the summer. And I need to check out the titles you mentioned. I’ve heard wonderful things about both!

  2. Mae, I’m thrilled that my book is on your list — especially since you have so many great things to read on there! My list keeps growing, too, and I’m trying to keep track of it at Goodreads, so I don’t forget any good stuff. But the amount of reading time I need — LOL — yikes! Somebody has to figure out how to add a few more hours to the day!

I can’t wait to add Weathering Rock to my e-reader. 🙂

    • Aww, thanks, Donna. Knowing you’re looking forward to Weathering Rock makes me feel great! 🙂 And I’m with you about needing more hours in the day. I get irked when I have to call it a night and am in the middle of a good read.

Speaking of which, I’m in the home stretch with Lord Midnight, and OMG, I’m on the edge of my seat about what happens next. Some things in there I completely didn’t see coming! What a great read! 🙂

  3. Totally agree, Mae! There are just too many great looking books out there by some very talented authors! Wish I had that speed reading ability, but then again, I love to luxuriate in the experience of each one!

    • I agree with you on that, L.J. I’m always torn between wanting to reach the end (to find out what happens) and not wanting a book to be over. I guess that’s a good problem to have.:)

  4. Amazon is my favorite on-line shopping place…not only for books but lots of other stuff too! If anybody ever wants to give me a gift, Amazon wins my smiles, hands down! LOL Hope you enjoy a happy and safe and cool 4th of July.

I’m reading A Night Like This by Julia Quinn. I always love reading her work.

  5. Hi Mae – Do I dare say, I have a spare office with wall-to-wall bookshelves (and this is where my husband and I keep our TBR books). We both have Kindles but love the feel of the hardback in our hands. Of course with Tom being an artist — many of his books have color plates in them, etc. We simply call this room our library and spend time there together with our two shit zue rescues reclining and reading far into the night.

You follow my blog wherein I post Book Review Wednesday and know that I fall into the category of women’s fiction but occassionally walk outside the line to other genre’s. I just finished reading The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan, a debut novel and literary in every way. I’m currently reading 3 books: Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan, Ada’s Rules by Alice Randall, and David N. Walker’s Web Wisdom – Godly Thoughts and Inspiration From The In-Box (an e-book from Amazon).

    • Hi, Sheri! I love my Kindle Fire but I do still read hardcovers and paperbacks from time to time. I’ve got a full wall in my den of bookcases (this after donating 14 large boxes of books to our local library and a nursing home in the area). I know you love to read! Just checking out all those great reviews on your blog tells me what an avid reader(and reviewer) you are! I love the image of you and Tom relaxing and reading with your shit zue rescues. What a lovely, cozy picture that conjures!

  6. What an impressive TBR list, Mae! My own TBR is fast filling up my Kindle and the bookshelf is double stacked. But my current reading list is a bit shorter. I’m reading: All A Man Can Ask- Virginia Kantra, Scared Bleu-Christopher Moore, Save The Cat! Strikes Back – Blake Snyder, Finding Your Voice – Les Edgerton and for research, Operatives, Spies, And Saboteurs: The Unknown Story of World War II’s OSS – Patrick O’Donnell. No wonder my head hurts most days. Best of luck with the blog and looking forward to adding Weathering Rock to my TBR.

    • Hey, yours is pretty impressive too! WOW! The good thing about writers is how much we like to read.

And I can’t wait for Lightning Only Strikes Twice. I’m all about time-travel and romance 🙂

  7. Holy crap, Mae. You ARE a reading maniac. I’m so jealous! LOL I’m currently reading Married by Monday by Catherine Bybee, when I can squeeze out a moment of me time.
I think I’m following you already but you know how technically challenged I am. 😉

  8. I signed up to follow you, hope it works 🙂

I read a lot of books offered through Goodreads in the read to review. I find a lot of interesting books that way and some bad books too. Never know what I’ll get, lol.

  9. I am currently reading Cat of a different color by Dana Marie Bell, the third book of her Halle Puma series. Before that I read the first two books of the series and the last three of Nicole Jordan’s Courtship Wars series. My TBR pile is not a pile but a mountain range, with mountains called Paranormal, Regency, Contemporary, Romantic suspense and M/M.

    • I’ve never been a RDJ fan but I loved him in the first Sherlock movie and really enjoyed the banner between him and Jude Law as Watson. Haven’t had a chance to watch the latest yet. And yeah, the series is awesome! Thanks for subscribing and commenting 🙂
